STATUS
I COME FROM WASHINGTON HEIGHTS UPTOWN MANHATTAN . IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD PEOPLE WITH STATUS ARE NOT REALLY PROFFESIONAL PEOPLE . IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD PEOPLE WITH STATUS ARE PEOPLE WITH MONEY AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET MONEY AROUND WHERE I LIVE IS DOING ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES. MY MOM IS A HARD WORKING LADY AND I REALLY LOOK UP TO HER BECAUSE SHES A SINGLE MOTHER WHO RAISED 4 KIDS. IN MY EYES SHE HAS STATUS . I DONT LOOK UP TO THE PEOPLE WITH STATUS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD ANY MORE BUT WHEN I WAS YOUNGER THATS ALL I WANTED TO DO HAVE MONEY AND HAVE THAT POWER . BUT AS I GOT OLDER I LEARNED THAT THATS NOT ALL TO LIFE MONEY . MONEY COMES AND GOES,AND THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE MAKING MONEY IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD ARE JUST MAKING MONEY OFF OTHER PEOPLES BAD HABITS . LIKE SELLING SLOW DEATH. NOW I JUST WANNA BECOME A PROFFESIONAL AND MAKE MY STATUS IN THE FIELD THAT I CHOOSE.

What you said reminds me of the lyrics to the song by Tupac called "Changes". Particularly, the part when he says, "You got to operate the easy way. 'I made a G today.' But you made it in a sleazy way selling crack to the kids. 'But I got to get paid.' Well hey, that's the way it is..."
ReplyDeletewhat a good way to learn from others and do the opposite. nothing is better than earning money and being proud of what you do. i can compare to the mother situation, my mom struggles but is the motivation to my everyday routine. even though we are from different ares i can compare to the same environment. just dont fall into the easy way out...
ReplyDeleteIts really interesting that you see status differently from everyone else in youir neighborhood. Its really admirable that you made up your own mind to not respect the people doing illegal things.
ReplyDeletemany people dont see the view of status as you do .. they dont realize that they are different status depending in the neighboorhood .. its good that you want make your own path and not follow everyone else .. and i admire your mom too .. its hard to be a single mother now in days especially with 4 childern.. my respects to her
